The Safford family came to Kansas from Vermont in the early 1850s.
The Chase family was among the earliest settlers in Cornish and built a home that is still in use today, The Chase House. Janda's greatx5 grandmother, Mercy, was the first Chase born in New Hampshire in 1755. Her parents Dudley and Alice Corbet had come from several generations of early Americans who settled in Massachusetts and Connecticut during the Great Migration of the 1630s.
The Peterson family lived in San Francisco in the late 1800s during a time of tremendous growth and progress. Development of the Port of San Francisco and the establishment in 1869 of overland access to the eastern U.S. rail system via the newly completed Pacific Railroad helped make the Bay Area a center for trade. Chinese immigrants created the city's Chinatown quarter. In 1870, The first cable cars carried San Franciscans up Clay Street in 1873. The city's sea of Victorian houses began to take shape, and civic leaders campaigned for a spacious public park, resulting in plans for Golden Gate Park.
The McMeekin family were among the earliest pioneers to settle in the newly established Kansas territory in 1850. They later moved to Topeka where they were involved in running Hotels and local politics. H.D. McMeekin founded the town of Indianola in 1854.
The town of Saffordville, Kansas was named after Judge Jacob Safford, Janda's greatx4 grandfather who was a Kansas Supreme Court Justice, lawyer and prominent member of Topkea society in the mid 1800s.

Janda's paternal family has deep roots in California with her earliest ancestor, her great-grandfather arriving in Coronado around 1905.
Janda's maternal side lived in Chicago and surrounding areas in the 1920s, while her paternal ancestors lived in Chicago in the 1860s during the Great Fire of 1871.
